Portal Graphics
« on: June 20, 2009, 10:49:24 PM »
Portal Graphics is ending support and production of their english version of Open Canvas, from now on you will be only able to get Japanese version.  Really I think this is a stupid idea.  How hard can it be to continue to produce an english version once the code is there.  Sure get rid of support if it's too much trouble but they should still sell it.  I would rather have a working version and support than no version at all.  However with OpenCanvas the only really cool feature is the playback feature which is genius, other than that the brushes are not that great, and no canvas/layer textures.   I hope that this brings more users to SAI.

I hope that SAI creator puts more effort into promoting his program.  I mean really he should give a way a free version or at least a demo to magazines like ImagineFX and other mags so that artists can learn from such a great tool.  Almost everyone I have ever talked with in my pro graphics arena never even heard of SAI or OpenCanvas.  I turned SAI on to a guy that used to work for Lucas Arts and he loved the program.

Really though, because of slow development of SAI, I hope that 4th Paint will release and english version sometime soon because the brushes are really fantastic.  For some reason these japanese companies really don't seem to think on a global scale though and are happy with the small marketshare of their own country when in reality both SAI and 4th Paint are much better designed programs than most of what we have produced here in the U.S.

Wow that's unexpected, was never really a fan of opencanvas other than the hard brush which is just like Photoshop.

4th paint has no plans for an english version, they never replied back to emails either so I don't think they'll support an english version. NekoPaint has been translated and SAI who knows at this point V1.1 may very well be the last version.

Could there be a way to perhaps demonstrate to the creators of 4th Paint has many interested people in it?
I don't like to think they ignored your mails, but maybe if we found a way to get someone who speaks enough Japanese to create a model mail to request an English version and get anyone who wants it to send it in they could consider it?
