Portal Graphics is ending support and production of their english version of Open Canvas, from now on you will be only able to get Japanese version. Really I think this is a stupid idea. How hard can it be to continue to produce an english version once the code is there. Sure get rid of support if it's too much trouble but they should still sell it. I would rather have a working version and support than no version at all. However with OpenCanvas the only really cool feature is the playback feature which is genius, other than that the brushes are not that great, and no canvas/layer textures. I hope that this brings more users to SAI.
I hope that SAI creator puts more effort into promoting his program. I mean really he should give a way a free version or at least a demo to magazines like ImagineFX and other mags so that artists can learn from such a great tool. Almost everyone I have ever talked with in my pro graphics arena never even heard of SAI or OpenCanvas. I turned SAI on to a guy that used to work for Lucas Arts and he loved the program.
Really though, because of slow development of SAI, I hope that 4th Paint will release and english version sometime soon because the brushes are really fantastic. For some reason these japanese companies really don't seem to think on a global scale though and are happy with the small marketshare of their own country when in reality both SAI and 4th Paint are much better designed programs than most of what we have produced here in the U.S.
