What are the benefits of using this program?
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:39:27 AM »
So, I mean this as no offense-- I'm just curious. I downloaded CSP and have been trying it out for a few days now and then. Most of my digital art work is either natural media emulation (pen and ink, watercolors) or its drafting plans. I use Artrage for some of my work, along with Sai, for which I've got a lot of custom brushes. I use Sketchbook Pro for some of my simple drafting stuff. Having tested this, I don't see what it offers that the others don't.  I'm sure I'm just missing it. Can you guys explain the benefits of using this program instead of some of the others I've mentioned?  Thanks!

Nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing you haven't got in any other software you have mentioned above, besides:

- Manga Studio ink brushes and inking mechanics.
- comic panel cutter
- paging (as in pagetemplates)
- text baloons
- digitone, speedlines, dither - rendering
- easy 3D model integration for reference.
- nice brush mechanics ( which has to be translated yet )

In case you are a comic artist, you will find your love for it growing exponentially, for all the other graphic expressions you could find an other eng substitute.

Rulers are very nice including shapes, manga effects, and perspective. It's being made by a company so updates will be steady and often and will feature new items.
Also it imports .obj so that's useful for 3D programs and google sketchup
Here's a list of features http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/rallysfa/CSPfeatures.png

yep !!!  :D

Rejoice fellow mac users! (ノ・∀・)ノ☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆

Hm... Ok. I did look at the list of features before posting- I just didn't see much there that applied to me I guess.

I hear you on rulers and perspective guides. They would be nice in Sai, though I don't find them essential. Im not currently making comics so that doesn't apply, though there are clearly A LOT of tools that apply to that function. The 3d rendering sounds potentially useful, but it's hard to say right now. Updates are always nice too, though Sai's always worked perfectly fine for me. I'm also not a Mac user, though I feel for those who are- go guys get left out of a lot of things.

I dunno- perhaps its just not a good match for my usage patterns. Thanks for the replies though. I appreciate it. :)

IMO, key shortcuts and modifier key customization are just brilliant.
Don't know if any of graphic programs offer this level of customization, except IllustStudio (that I know of).
Every tool can have custom shortcuts/modifiers assigned to different tools and operations,
which saves time and is very convenient.

For example you can set your oil brush to be airbrush when you press CTRL, or blur brush on SHIFT etc.
I have set it up so that oil brush can do airbrush color dodge, burn and overlay on modifiers.
Like this. And I love it.

If you're working with lines you can set CTRL to do the curve, SHIFT to do bezie curve ETC, while normal action would result in straight line and so on.
