You probably put the files in wrong folder or you copied the wrong files over.
I'm at CSP v1.1.1, brushes and translation work fine, my brushes and settings are unchanged.

I don't know if this also happens to you:

- I downloaded material from that menu program (C:\Program Files\CELSYS\CLIP STUDIO\CLIP STUDIO\CLIPStudio.exe )
- The stuff you download is automatically saved in My Documents / CELSYS/ CLIPStudioCommon / Material (they are distributed in a ver random way inside that folder)
- Ok, I had to format my PC, so  I did a copy of that "Material" folder
- I installed Windows 7 and all programs again sucessfully.
- I copy-pasted the "Material" folder inside My Documents / CELSYS/ CLIPStudioCommon /
- When I ran CPS, they don't appear in the material sidebar anymore.
- I also opened that Celsys start menu .exe file (C:\Program Files\CELSYS\CLIP STUDIO\CLIP STUDIO\CLIPStudio.exe) and all materials that I downloaded doesn't appear there either.

Does it mean that if you delete the CELSYS folder inside My Documents or if you format your PC, you lose all that you downloaded previously??? (EVEN HAVING PREVIOUSLY SAVED A COPY of that "Material" folder somewhere else?)

I downloaded 4 new materials, and they actually APPEAR in the CPS materials sidebar, but... what's about the rest of materials that I dowloaded and saved before reinstaling the program? They all are copy/pasted in My Documents / CELSYS/ CLIPStudioCommon / and don't appear anywhere! I wonder if there could be any solution, if not I'm afraid that downloading materials is just a waste of time.

I'm still going to use and pay for the upgrade to EX for the Japanese version. I hope translation continues.

→ As far I know, Smith Micro's Manga Studio 4 brushes (.brp files) are not compatible with Celsys' ones (.tos files), they don't have the same file extension. I don't know if this will happen with the new Manga Studio 5 version though, but I guess this time all brushes could be .tos files, I guess brushes will finally have the same file extension in both versions.

I wonder if you also can download Clip Studio Paint materials from the Celsys website with Manga Studio 5, since you ONLY could do it via "ClipStudio.exe" start menu (you know, that menu to update and launch the programs and download/organize materials from Celsys website):
Will you be able to download Celsys' materials from the Smith Micro's start menu too? (I doubt so, since Smith Micro and Celsys are two different companies)

Smith Micro (the distribution company) didn't update Manga Studio EX 4 since 2009 whereas Celsys (the product developer) is updating Comic Studio EX 4 and all their programs CONSTANTLY.
If they are going to do the SAME with Manga Studio 5... I would prefer the japanese version to be honest, since this program is Celsys' CREATION (and cheaper) and they are constantly updating. It wouldn't surprise me to see Smith Micro launching only a couple of updates in 2013-14 and later nothing else until... 2020??? (and I guess they would directly launch another new translated program... like they have been doing until now)

Moreover, Celsys' Clip Studio Paint EX will be constantly updating and releasing new tools until Autum/Winter 2013 while Smith Micro is going to launch an incomplete official EX version in Summer 2013. Smith Micro is just waiting for Celsys' updates before launching versions and updates (plus, as I said before, they don't usually update as often as Celsys do), Smith Micro NEEDS to go almost 9 months or 1 year behind because they are not the devepolers of this program, but Celsys.

→ Regarding the translation, I hope Smith Micro releases a MS 5 trial soon, so we only need to get those 2-3 files inside the 'resources/other' folder to have a full english translation for our CPS.; or well, I just hope it could work.

→ Welp, at least we could get this to understand better how the japanese version works, since both versions are similar:
1. User's Guide for Manga Studio 5
2. Tool Guide for Manga Studio 5

→ As BrianK said above: I hope that english translation for Celsys' Clip Studio Paint versions/updates continues!  ;D These programs are Celsys' own creations and this company is deeply thrown into them (and are constantly updating, unlike Smith Micro).

Is Manga Studio 5 really the same as Clip Studio Paint? I've asked someone on Deviantart (who founded the group for it) and they said that it isn't; that Clip Studio Paint is 3 programs in one - Comic Studio, Illustudio and Posestudio.

The user guides are going to be really useful, if they really are so similar. I still think I should learn Japanese just to be able to use this kind of program and buy it directly from Celsys, since the updates from SmithMicro are so slow...

Clip studio paint will be manga studio 5 since Celsys discontinued comic studio (manga studio in English). They are no longer making  CS or IS. Smith micro is just continuing to use the name manga studio for distributing CSP. The last version of MS/CS is version 4.

CSP, Trev and updates for me, thank you very much.
Although it's very nice to have official translation.
How were the updates on Manga studio before?
That's my main concern.

Although it's very nice to have official translation.

If Smith Micro releases some Manga Studio 5 trial (I hope they do it), if both programs have the same folders structure, we would only need to get the files inside the Manga Studio 5 "resources/other" folder (they are in Program Files) and copy/paste them in our Clip Studio Paint PRO "resources/other" folder to get the full official english translation.

As you can see in the Clip Studio Paint folder structure, you can find in the "C:\Program Files\CELSYS\CLIP STUDIO\CLIP STUDIO PAINT\resource\" folder TWO subfolders called "japanese" and "other" → That "other" file makes me think that Celsys ALREADY planned a possible multilingual system perhaps (?)

How were the updates on Manga studio before?
I didn't understand that question so well. I only know that Smith Micro just offered a little number of updates for Manga Studio ES 4 and they stopped offering updates since 2009. On the other hand, Celsys offers a lot of updates for Comic Studio EX 4 to date. I'm affraid that it will happen the same with this new Manga Studio 5 version, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Plus, if you have Clip Studio Paint, you can download a lot of updates and materials from the Celsys website thanks to the ClipStudio.exe start-menu program. I doubt that Manga Studio 5 gives you that option.
Also, if CSP EX still have pending new tools that are not going to be released until summer and autum 2013, that only means the Smith Micro's Manga Studio EX 5, that will be released in summer 2013, will be an incomplete version.

I have no intention on purchasing Manga Studio 5.
I have Clip Studio Paint, and it's quite enough for me, plus I get all the updates pronto.
Celsys could have made an easier way to do translation, some sort of template or something.

I'm confused, I don't know if you misunderstood me. I was talking about a FREE TRIAL Manga Studio 5 Version for people who wants to try the program, not the full paid version.
If Smith Micro offered a free trial version, we could download it and, if both programs have the same folders structure inside, we would only need to copy the files inside the Manga Studio 5 "resources/other" folder and paste them inside our Clip Studio Paint PRO "C:\Program Files\CELSYS\CLIP STUDIO\CLIP STUDIO PAINT\resource\other\" folder to get the full official english translation in our Clip Studio Paint program.

I understood you fine. However maybe the folder structure is not the only prerequisite for translation.
The files may be different, we had problems with CSP translation files which didn't work on newer versions.
When they release it , CSP will already have an update to newer version. If MS doesn't have a brief update plan, there will be issues with the files.
Sounds good, but it might not work out well. I recon they changed the code of the program a bit, as well,
as there are some icons missing and translation seems to be taking more space in UI (not limited like with Japanese-> English fan translation).

As far as updates go, Smith Mirco is very poor at this. Since the time Manga Studio 4 was release there were two. I do believe that Smith Mirco have the same release as the physical version of Clip Studio Paint which means they're already several updates behind and are missing features. If you have a copy of Clip Studio Paint, I wouldn't bother switching. Consist software updates are worth it.

If you're just updating from Manga Studio Debut to MS5 and you don't mind the lack updates then you would save some cash by getting the smith micro release.

Also I tend to wait for software like that to show up on Amazon.com, I did grab a physical copy of MSex there super cheap last year, and I like my software deals.

I'm so glad to see how people in this forum prefer CSP :D
Anyone here is interested in getting the EX version?
