Hey guys, I've been an avid Manga Studio ex4 user for a couple years and upon the announcement of MS5 I did a little googling and it brought me here.

Some things I discovered from this forum:
- Smith Micro has done a pretty shoddy job keeping even MSex4 updated. I never knew this! I've actually been quite happy with ex4 but didn't realize it could have been updated several times since I purchased it 2 years ago.
- MS5 is basically Clip Studio Paint.
- Smith Micro is already behind on MS5 "updates".
- The current Clip Studio Paint is missing a few comic making components that were present in MS EX 4.

These issues among others has actually stopped me from doing an impulse purchase of the Manga Studio 5 upgrade available at SmithMicro's site.

I'm actually now looking into buying Clip Studio Paint, but I have some questions....

I would use the program primarily for drawing manga. Therefor the ability to create a Story file with multiple comic pages is important, as well as the ability to create panels, panel cutting (with panel layers automatically created), word balloons, etc.... but apparently Clip Studio Paint, from what I've seen, can't really do these things (yet).

I guess what I'm asking is... should I just stick with MS EX 4 if I'm just going to making comics (I don't really care about the coloring features) and wait for CSP ex to come out, or are there people on this thread that are able to do all the things I mentioned and I just haven't figured it out yet?

Any help very much appreciated!

HI, e4e5nf3

CELSYS, the japanese company created and developed all their programs. SMITH MICRO is just the distribution company in Occident, it means they didn't created/developed the program, they just made business with Celsys and distribute the english version out Japan.

Comic Studio DEBUT 4.0 = Manga Studio DEBUT 4
Comic Studio EX 4.0 = Manga Studio EX 4
Clip Studio Paint PRO = Manga Studio 5
Clip Studio Paint EX = Manga Studio EX 5

Neither Clip Studio Paint PRO nor Manga Studio 5 can open multiple comic pages yet.
But Clip Studio Paint EX and Manga Studio EX 5 will be able to open and save multiple comic pages.
Here you are a list about the actual and upcoming tools that the PRO and EX versions will have: http://www.clipstudio.net/paint/functional_list (translate it into english)

But Clip Studio Paint EX version is coming soon, by the end of this month! The english version (Manga Studio EX 5) will not be released until Summer 2013.

I'd prefer to buy Celsys' versions (and translated into english by this awesome community) one million of times before because of the aforementioned reasons I posted here on page #30: http://sai.detstwo.com/smf/index.php?topic=2001.msg7481#msg7481

*Personal Advice: Just keep using Manga Studio EX 4 in the meantime. When they release the Clip Studio Paint EX version in 3 weeks, considere buying it after informing yourself about other people's experiences with the program = )

You can make story file with EX version, creating and cutting panels as well as creating and editing word balloons are already in the CSP PRO version.
Just not the page creation.

I would go with the CSP, the main reason is quicker updates and features.
We will manage for translation somehow.

Nice! I was under the impression that CSP EX was coming out months from now.

I think I know what to wait for now.

I notice there is a sneak peak copy of EX available right now. Gonna try to check it out. :)

It's only available good for 30 days though. It's a bit pointless for Trev and the team to translate a trial then turn around and retranslate the official product. :\
It'll probably get a translation when the official EX version comes out.

Yes, it runs fine over here, I know it's well optimized. :)
I can only imagine how it would fly on more updated machine.
Hopefully in a month or so.  :-X

Has a price been announced for CSP EX? buying outright or upgrading from pro?
I can't seem to find anything.

Also, does CLIP ever have a holiday sale? New Years, maybe?

Thanks,
Flynn

Hello guys,
New user to CSPP here, been a long time SAI user and just find out about this program from Manga Studio 5.

I tried the trial version (v1.1.1) and applied the translation patch. Everything seems fine although I am having some difficulties in registration window that still in Japanese, but the program interface is in English now, except this:

Any idea what I did wrong? I'm sure I've replaced materials folder in My Documents to English one. Or v1.0.3 material patch does not work for v1.1.1 materials?

Thanks :)
