News / Re: New Tool for SAI?
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:04:47 AM »
I've installed it...where is it?

Where's the shape tool?

It's the saimoji20090701 file? Or something else?  I don't get a tool like it shows when I open sai... Do I have to modify something else?

Alright, I extracted the cab and ran it from a directory I set up.  I have no idea where the original installed to.

It appears that it's just a simple text tool to let you paste things into sai.  It works, saves me from having to open my file in photoshop.

This usually happens when you exceed the canvas pixel limit and try to perform a function.  Make careful note of your recommended maximum canvas resolution and don't exceed or even come that close to it.

Hmm,  I think I emailed Koji about 6 months ago when I first tested windows 7 and was having a problem with my tablet.  He said he was having to rewrite a lot of the main sourcecode for Sai before he added anything else because it would eat too much memory.  So I assumed that was why there hasn't been any updates.  He said something about sai becoming too much of a memory hog, and I was kind of shocked at that, cause it's like one of the least hoggish graphic apps I've ever used.   Strange that people say they've lost contact with him, maybe he's just overwhelmed, or taking a vacation after working so hard for like 10 years.  I asked him about a blur filter and text tool that Sai was very much missing and he seemed hopeful that he would add it.  I know if it was me and I just finished such an amazing project after so long I'd take at least a 6 month vacation. lol

Have any of you visited pixiv? It was like made possible because of sai. lol  He must have sold thousands if not 10's of thousands of copies.

Maybe he was a hikikomori before, and now that he has money and finished sai to a usable point he's seeing about getting a life or something. lol

SAI in English / Re: SAI eraser tool problem.

Look in the misc.ini in the sai directory and switch it from either sai controlled to wintab, and make sure that you have the proper function checked in your driver.  There's also a section under Options, other options then digitzer support, make sure the eraser function there is set to default.

General Discussion / Re: Comic Studio in Japanese.

Comic studio 4 was in torrents when it first came out, not sure if it still is.  It seems to be generally better than mangastudio with all the updates and resources, I agree.  I'd still prefer sai or 4th paint over it though.  I hate the way it pixelates when you rotate the image.  It's really great for doing backgrounds though.

I emailed and Susume said that he'd be willing to sell me a copy if I gave him a cc.. but absolutely no English help will be available.  Hopefully he'll at least help me with a driver issue I'm having with my tabletpc.  Anyway, looking like a good program, it's at least sai's equal for sketching if not coloring and has things like text function which Sai is missing. The only issue I have with it so far is that it looks like it's harder to blend colors in than Sai right now.

You're not showing the unicode at all, you need to change your location to Japan, and set the unicode to Japanese in order to run Japanese programs, as well has having Japanese installed on your system of course.

Judging from the fact that even your filenames are messed up, I'd guess you don't have Japanese installed at all.  You need to do a lot of work in "regional and language settings"  Install everything that says Japanese, and change almost everything to Japanese in whatever options you can see.

It's not just one font you need to install, you need to install like 5 or 6 fonts in order for an xp system to be fully Japanese program compatible.

Thanks for that translation, that really helps, I can keep it open on one computer and draw on the other while I'm figuring everything out.

The new version seems really good, and seems like it's being more updated than seems like it has all the necessities that sai set out, plus some better brushes....

sai hasn't had an update in like almost a year?

Anyone know how to buy 4th paint? I looked all over the site, but can find neither an email to write to, or a place to purchase a license.

Found the store for Japanese users at least here:

Not sure if you can buy it with an american card yet.

Looks like not, the payment service seems to require a Japanese address to be a registered user.

I think that's a function of the driver, I only have intuos, but it's standard for intuos mouses to have the initial setting of mouse,   but you can change them to act as a pen...

I solved my problem though! It definitely was the hidden setting in the misc.ini  I knew I was on to something the second I saw it.  Koji is so smart, he already had that setting in there, although hidden in an ini file, and in Japanese. lol You can set it to use either the internal sai driver or the windows wintab driver.  I had installed a registry tweak for photoshop that was actually causing sai to disregard the data and was giving me the funny results.  Once I took out the registry tweak, and reset the calibration in the wacom tablet driver, not the windows tablet calibration it now works perfectly! Hehe I finally get to draw something on my new tablet!!!

I set them both to 1, it had an interesting effect of moving the point of the circle to the proper position, but the circle where it actually draws is still offset!! Strange!!

Interesting I found this is the misc.ini file, ran it through the excite translator..going to play around with some of these settings:

; Paint tool SAI assistance configuration file

; Tablet relation

; Position where mouse cursor when blurring is corrected is displayed
; Only when below TabletMouseSimulation is 0, it is effective.
; Setting:
; 0. . . The mouse cursor is displayed in coordinates before the
blurring is corrected.
; 1. . . The mouse cursor is displayed in coordinates after the
blurring is corrected. (It is invalid in the S-n correction. )
TabletCursorMode = 0

; Bug evasion of tablet driver Ver6.0x of Wacom
; There is a bug in the multi display switch since tablet driver Ver6.04 of Wacom; The
phenomenon of the menu and the drop down list's shutting soon by SAI is generated.
; This sets the tablet driver to the mode to control the mouse event by the application;
When the display is switched even in case of being, the tablet driver controls the
mouse event without permission; The purpose is to come to do.
; If TabletMouseSimulation is adjusted to one, it comes to be able to use the menu etc.
for the time being.
; However, please note that there is the following limitations.
; - All the settings of the tablet tab of the option dialog are disregarded; -
The mouse cursor is displayed in coordinates before the blurring is always
corrected (TabletCursorMode is 0 always); - It malfunctions when the tablet
driver changes the mapping to the mouse mode.
; The bug like other following is confirmed to Wacomutabrettodoraiba Ver6.04?.
; - The Ctrl key is disregarded in the keystroke.
; Setting:
; 0. . . The mouse event is controlled with SAI; 1. . . The
control of the mouse event is left to WinTab.
TabletMouseSimulation = 0

; Color palette relation
; When ending comment of the following setting is removed, it becomes the display of 16
×8 masses to the α version.
;Size = 11 ; Size of mass of palette
;Cols = 16 ; Number of horizontal masses
;Rows = 8 ; Number of masses in vertical direction
;Width = 179 ; Width of palette window
;Height = 91 ; Height of palette window
;ShowHSB = 0 ; Whether the horizontal scroll bar is displayed or not?(It 1= is
displayed that it 0= doesn't display it. )
;ShowVSB = 0 ; Whether a vertical scroll bar is displayed or not?(It 1= is displayed
that it 0= doesn't display it. )

I realized something after posting my last comment.  This problem hasn't occurred on any of prior tablet pc's.  The thing about the c140xl that's different is that it's a widescreen tabletpc. The driver in sai clearly isn't recognizing this and is calibrating the pen for a standard 4:3 screen!

Great thanks!

Speaking of my second problem.  I bought a c140xl basically just to use with Sai, but there are problems with it in that the cursor is automatically calibrated by the program, different than the normal windows calibration that sets off to the right, which is very bad since it's blocked by the pen, so you can't see what you're drawing.   There was a fix for the driver in the registry for photoshop which also had a similar problem, a way to ignore the kernel that maps the calibration value.  Does anyone know a similar way to manually offset or make the program ignore internal calibration of the cursor in Sai?

I've written Koji, but he's probably pretty busy, so not sure he can offer a fix anytime soon..

Wow so amazed to find this forum, been reading it for a little, but this is my first post. So just wanted to say thanks to the translator and everything.  Sai is such a great program!!

Anyway, one thing I noticed on the Japanese board once was a buglist that after all is why Koji I expect is releasing trials for us, so we can give our feedback and help him nail down bugs.  So I thought it might be nice to start one here, and maybe someone can email him then with them, if not read them himself.  Does Koji read this board??

So my first bug/annoyance is that the size change for the brush diameter is control/alt, which if you want to map it to the pen using a wacom it causes conflict problems. It also seems to be the only command in the whole program that isn't remappable which is funny since it's one of the things I use the most.  It usually ends up turning into an eye dropper, and especially in these later versions even picks up a color which it shouldn't do.

Second the program seems to use it's own internal pen driver, which is good, but for those people using Cintiq's and tablet pc's it causes calibration problems.

Anyway, hope we can put together a list to make Sai an even better program! It's already the best!!
