If SAI isn't on your list of recommended programs, use the 'browse' button under that list to find it and select it anyways.

I've often had Aero turned off by default on my Win7 computer.

However, if you hit your Windows key, then type in 'Aero', one of the options that will appear (in a moment or two) will be 'find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects'. Select this and it should turn Aero back on for you.

I guess it should be noted that if you are using 'windows 7 basic' (or whatever the netbook version of Windows 7 was) that Aero is not available.

The top image has either Aero turned off or is running in Windows 8 (or perhaps in a Virtual  Windows 7 on a Mac). The bottom image (which has a bunch of other options turned on ) is in Windows 7 with Aero turned on.

I've had no issues with Windows 8 and SAI. Go to your SAI folder and Right click on the Startsai.exe program (greenbox with white 'play' arrow):  tell it to 'send' this 'shortcut to the desktop' so that you can have a normal startup icon.

If that application keeps trying to 'just install' SAI all over again, restart the application with the 'right click to open as administrator' kind of thing just like in Windows 7 and let it re-install. If it keeps doing this, try moving your application folder somewhere that you know you have full permissions to access and try again.

Really, Windows8 is not very different in a lot of ways from Windows7 (as far as desktop applications go);  there isn't any reason you shouldn't be able to get this to work.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

The effect is one based on the pressure sensitivity of the pen ... so you need to make sure that your pen is working in this manner.

Also, make sure the tool you are using has a Minimum size set to some low number (in the tool palette). Also, make sure that , in the advanced settings of this same tool palette, that the PRESS box for SIZE is checked. If the settings are set properly, and you still don't get the proper effect, then search the depths of these forums for information on fixing tablet pressure response (if it's a Wacom tablet, open the Wacom Tablet Properties and select Remove All User Preferences;  that can sometimes do the trick).

Well ghirlle, it's just like your quote says.

1. Right Click on SAI Install program that you wish to install (If you are installing from this site, it's the file named sai-eng-pack-1.1.0-f1.exe, and from the contextual menu that appears, choose ' Run as Administrator'.

And SAI pretty much does all the rest;  this gives you the 30 day free trial.

And if you have a bought a license, you follow the instructions that came with the confirmation email, which will ultimately end with you downloading a license file (which will have a name like sai-000000000000.slc) which you drag into the folder where you installed SAI and you're done.

I'm assuming then you wish someone to fill in the missing elements from your images?

I'm not sure about the others that frequent this forum, but I haven't seen too many folks responding to the 'do this for me' kind of requests.

You might try some other forums for this kind of thing as well (and when you do so, spell out EXACTLY what you want. Don't say that "the model is missing these elements", say that "the model is missing these elements, would anyone be willing to draw them in for me, and here are the source SAI files").

Good luck! It looks like a interesting project!

Sorry, I followed the link, but I do not understand what kind of help you are asking for.

SAI General / Re: [Newbie/Noob] Copy and Flip Question
« on: November 21, 2012, 07:38:07 PM »
It is done almost the exact same way as in photoshop:

1. Make your selection (using the wand tool (called Magic Wand in Photoshop), the Lasso Tool, or a Selection Paint tool ... whatever pleases you or fits your workflow).

2. COPY and PASTE;  Pasting will paste on  a new layer. Use the keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+C for Copy and CTRL+V for paste, or use the EDIT menu. You can't right click and get a contextual menu for this step.

3. Go to the Layer Menu and select 'Transform', and like in Photoshop (which shares the same keyboard shortcut of CTRL+T), you can then rotate it, move it, or flip it. You will also see in the Layer menu shortcuts for horizontal and vertical flipping.

When you go to set the default program (as you described), there should be a button titled 'browse' at the bottom. Click that, find your SAI program file (where-so-ever you have it installed), and pick SAI from that.

SAI General / Re: Pressure Sensitivity Problem! PLEASE HELP
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:03:56 PM »
Well, I don't have Genius tablet, so any help I could offer would not be terribly useful.

However, with other Tablets, it's the re-installation of the TABLET DRIVER that is the most effective, even if the tablet driver works normally in other programs.

I feel your pain!  Good luck!

Seems to work pretty sweetly!

Sberry, just make a copy of your SAI folder on your computer, download and install the new one (it installs in root C drive), then drag the SAI.exe from the new one over into your copy of the original SAI folder, then run as usual.

Your old licence, brushes, textures, and tools, will work,  as will almost all the language translation (so far, only one line in the new file browser didn't translate ... I think it means 'favourites' though).

Nice to see some work being done on SAI again, even if it's only a little update!

SAI General / Re: Preserve opacity/clipping group/filter option fails

Well, I zoomed in your image and took a look:  both images have the same white 'flange' at the side (it's just much harder to see with the lighter colour than it is with the darker). Therefore, the preserve opacity is likely functioning properly.
EDIT: Zoomed image reposted at:

Press the tab key on your keyboard. :V

And if that doesn't work, make sure to use the 'Reset all window positions' in the Windows menu. The tab is to hide/show windows and the reset (reset window positions) brings them back onto the screen if they are currently hanging out offscreen.

I think the box that you are looking for in this case is 'preserve opacity' ... it's in the layers palette (right above the layer window) and it needs to be 'unchecked'.
