This is a new one. I tried using a watercolor-like style, similar to copic markers when tracing, but the final result got more than 3000x3000 pixels area, and resizing destroyed any detailes there were.

Done for a cover.

Layering is very similar to the methods for Photoshop.  There are plenty of tutorials online for basic Photoshop work.  for my art I start with my rough pencil sketch on the bottom layer.  I trace that with a vector layer above that.  Colors and shading of characters are done in layers below the vector layer.  A base color layer is done first and shading is done on a layer above that.  In the case of my Mary marvel pic you'll find in the General Gallery here (shameless plug) the background was done in another program as an image the same size of my canvas.  I simply opened it in an empty layer below the colors and vectors.  Make sure any white area in your vector layer is filled in with opaque white or offwhite or it will let the background show through a hole.

I do the same thing xD

But sometimes I actually like to sketch by hand and then scan and use Multiply mode. I still like dark lineart xD

Thanks, Sgiff ^^

Only adding more, I tried some different working techniques with SAI for these two pieces:

The first one I tried a more brushy style, and the second one, a stylized sof-cell painting. I have some problem with opposite colors ¬¬

I guessed having some posts in here would help me get more people's opinion and hence, improve a bit :D

Well, I've been using for some time now... but I only got a Wacom 2 days ago, so I decided to do some training. Basically, I wanted to show what I think are my best works with SAI when it was only me and dear mousy (and from the beginning of January):

And then I discovered that SAI is a God when it comes to pressure and density ^^

With.. this one.

Nah, I just wish the outline was mine. It belongs to Stanley Lau (, but the thing is I wanted to try on my painting. The "pepper project" one was made, without so many tones, in 4 days. This new one took me 3 hours and a half ;D

Just wanted to show my appreciation for SAI, the team, and the fact that this forum exissts - it is a great help. Also, I think that I'll post here from now on, works in progress... gotta stick with people's opinion :P

This is kinda... complicated, as it depends A LOT in layering abilities. Fuss around, try everything, then try asking here if you need anything.

The only "bad" side of SAI for newbies is that "empty space" is represented as white, the same way as white color...
