SAI 2 / Re: Paint Tool SAI 2.0 available for download
« on: December 23, 2013, 07:16:38 PM »
Has anyone tried this on a multi-touch screen?  Does it work?  Or is it still made for non-touch devices?  I don't have MT on my tablet, and so can't tell.

I must say, having played with this, that I'm excited.  It's as fast as ever, which is wonderful, but some bugs have been fixed too (I always had issues binding certain keys to pen buttons, for instance).  The 64 bit compatabiliity is also very nice.  It was easy to move around a huge canvas, etc.  Brushes at huge sizes were wonderful too-- even blending ran smoothly up to 1000!  That's really big for what is normally a pretty CPU-intensive task, and I'm not running it on a desktop.

I also noticed they've improved some of the texture dynamics-- before, the brush textures would scale with the brush size, but now I noticed that the texture scale remains the same and it's just the brush head that increases.  This allows me to over a huge swatch of area, but to have the textural affect of a canvas background still read true.  My memory is that this wasn't the case in Sai 1.1.  I love the ease with which you can construct Sai's 2-texture brush method, and then throw in a background texture (what is essentially a texture on Overlay) on the Layers panel. Quick, easy, and very effective.  If he could just include some good geometrical tools, this would probably replace SBP for me too.  Still, seems like a wonderful improvement anyways!

Having this in English would be awesome.  I would be wonderfully grateful.

I am using the fantastic set of brushes you uploaded a long while ago.  In particular, you have these 4 great colored brushes (2 blue and 2 red).  I would love to have each of these in black.  You don't seem to currently have them in the set as such, and I can't figure out for the life of me how to change their color to black (or any other color for that matter).  I feel like this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I can't find it.  Can anyone help me figure this out?  These pencils are awesome, they're so life like, and it would be great to have them be more flexible.  Thanks!

I'm trying to download and try out the brushes you posted earlier in this thread.  All the ones that came from 2shared worked (the basic first two sets), but any of the 4 later ones from SpeedyShare are not working.  They require me to have a Premium, payed subscription. If I click on the download link anyways (the name) it tells me I can't dl it for that reason.  It's these 4 I was hoping to test-

Is there any other way for me to get these?  Am I missing where the download them?

Additionally, I had 2 questions about installing the brushes I've already downloaded-
1) Is there a way to install them in bulk?  Or do I need to install them one at a time through the "Subtools Import" menu?
2) Does it matter what subtool I install them under?  I'm trying to navigate the fact that tools are under the Pen or Pencil icons, and Idon't want to make a mess of things if I'm somehow screwing them up by putting them in the wrong place.

SAI General / Re: Compatible with Windows RT?

Well, I guess there's two parts to that answer-
1) No, Sai is not RT compatible, as it only runs on "full" Windows.  HOWEVER

2) The new Samsung Ativ Pc's (both the 500t with an Atom cpu and the 700t with an iCore cpu) both run "full" windows. Neither of them run RT.  So you're in luck!  :)  Get either of them and you'll be running full windows, and can run any and all art programs that you would always run on Windows.

SAI in English / Q re: masking techniques in Sai
« on: November 04, 2012, 03:02:59 AM »
I want to make a mask in Sai that works much like the brush textures do in Sai.  I want to take a paper grain, sharpen the contrast, and load it into Sai as a mask, with the intent of having "grain" areas that are totally masked, so that the brush won't fill those areas.

I really like the way Sai implements grain on the brushes, but one of the odd things I've noticed is that the grain size increases as the brush increases.  What I REALLY want is for the grain size to stay the same even if I make a big brush, so that the grain of, say, a piece of paper can be placed on a brush, and it will feel consistent regardless of how big I make the brush.  Right now, that doesn't happen.

I thought I might be able to achieve this through masking, but I've not been successful yet.  Does anyone have any good ideas?  I'm open to suggestions, and don't feel a need to necessarily achieve what I'm looking for one way or another-- it could be through masks, or the .bmp image files for the brushes, or some other means.

I've been trying it as well through using paper texture on an upper layer with an Overlay blend mode.  This achieves good results for having the paint you lay down look like it has a papery texture, but it doesn't affect HOW the paint is layed down, particulalry on the rims, for example.  Basically, the brush lays down paint on the lower layer, and the Overlay fills it with its overlay.  It's not quite achieving the results I've been looking for.

I wonder if it fixes the annoying bug where right click cant reliably linked to te right click button. I've had endless headaches panning on a slate using only the pen.

So- any reports back on what these new betas add? It seemed sort of hypothetical. Would be nice to hear real world reports from users who have tried it out.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. I'm simply in a place where I don't have 70$ to spare at all.  So I've not been able to purchase CPS, and my trial ran out. This, my more "academic" interest currently. The tool looks good, I just can't afford it at the moment.

It would be cool to see some samples posted of what these brushes can do-- the best ones (people keep mentioning the sumi ones for instance), or ones that do something special but aren't "stamps" (say, special watercolor ones, or other natural media stuff).  Just would be cool to see what these do.

Ok, I see that's one allows you to work in Sai with text, which is quite cool. Does it allow you to use English?

And what does the second tool do?

Ok, so just to verify-
Sai 1.2 beta 3 does NOT CURRENTLY offer more ram usage, right?  If you have been running 64bit for the last few years, it's been allowing you a max of 4gb for the program, and that is still what it's offering, right?  There is no chane on this front yet?

Re: Sai 2.0- 64 bit compatability, with the option for Multicore usage and full 64but ram usage, with the additonal option of larger canvases would be really awesome. I'd buy it again for that.

Right, so my question is what is new?  I've always been able to use 4 gb ram in Sai. Can we now use more?  You said we could use more memory, so that's why I asked.

But I have win7 64bit, and it's always used up to 4 gb of ram, hasn't it? Is there something different in the pics that I'm missing?

What's the story on altered memory support?

I'm assuming it doesn't work with the English translation?  Just trying to understand what I lose compared to what I get in the new beta.
