SAI General / Re: SAI and my tablet drivers

SAI doesn't (shouldn't) mess with your tablet drivers. But if they have gone awry, try this to clean up the tablet references in the driver directory before reinstalling them:

Could be SAI's <F11> Full screen modes. Otherwise check your Windows taskbar settings to keep it on top.

but one of the odd things I've noticed is that the grain size increases as the brush increases.

Are you sure about that? It's kind of hard to tell, but from a quick play, it looks consistent (using WaterCol brush, with textures on Brush Shape and Brush Texture). At least, it doesn't appear to be a deal breaker.

Anyway I'm not sure about a better way. Without textures on the actual Brush Shape, these approaches can easily have a flat pattern look to them.

But I do use your Overlay mode blending technique when areas need some detail. If it helps, when I do this, I fill the (top) texture layer with an RGB 128,128,128 colour - a dead middle grey - so that the overlay doesn't affect the underlying colors; it only texturises them.

I chalked it up to another glitch, and went through my normal routine of restarting the computer, exiting the program etc.

I was thinking, well your tablet still works and pressure likely works in other apps, But there's something broke between SAI and the tablet. That does put it in the realm of driver issues. Maybe you changed the USB port used by the tablet, or perhaps other drivers were installed which upsets SAI's idea of where you tablet is.

I've had similar problems with some audio/MIDI USB hardware devices, and used USBDeview to help identify any surplus, excess, unused USB drivers which just clog up the USB driver directory. So, if a simple driver reinstall doesn't work, you could give this a go. Obviously do a backup first and whatever:

Yeah that's how it works. Then just copy and paste one image into the other, where it shows up as a new layer.

When you try filling the white gaps, check your brush tool settings' Drawing Mode. It looks like the "Vivid" or "Deep" color mode is in use, rather than "Normal".

Normal mode should paint over the gaps, while the other modes will just enhance the colors (make the pink pinkier, but not really affecting the white).

No, you cannot combine a stroke with itself.

But... you can break a stroke into two strokes using the eraser, then re-combine these strokes at different control points using the above technique.

Select one of the linework modifier tools (white arrow and dot icon). Hold down both [Shift] and [CTRL] and drag the end point of one stroke to the end point of the other stroke.

If it doesn't work as expected, perhaps you are not selecting points from the correct strokes. It is easy to have a densely packed cluster of points belonging to different strokes. Zoom in or use the Translate CP tool option to wiggle the points around, and make sure you are combining the points/strokes you want.

I think it's okay if the images are Greyscale versus Indexed, as long as the palette is 256 colours (which most Indexed color palettes are, but typically Greyscale images are not). I converted Marimo's images using Fireworks, using a Greyscale / 256 color export option and they worked fine.

Because the tool panel can be customized, for raster and linework layers. You can create and name custom versions of all the tools with your favourite settings. So you can create a textured, scraped version of the Watercolor brush and call it a "Hair brush".

To find out how to customize tools, the answer is in your post title: Start SAI, choose the Others > Help menu command to open the Help window. Then navigate to Contents > Operation > Tools > Tool Panel.

SAI in English / Re: The curve tool does not like the pressure tool
« on: March 01, 2012, 03:57:16 PM »
There's nothing on other layers obscuring the pressure changes?

If not, perhaps the lines are being drawn at the mimimum weight, so you don't notice the pressure changes.

To check, click the 'Weight' tool, select a big brush size and click on your curve... Then select the 'Pressure' tool and scrub left or right to adjust the size of a point on the curve.

While doing so, notice the tooltip which tells you the pressure percentage (the % of the original curve's weight). With a bigger weight assigned to the curve, it should be easier to notice changes in pressure.

Try starting SAI, choose Others menu > Options command, then increase the Maximum Canvas Size to a really big value (bigger than the images you want to open). Close and restart SAI and see if the images open.
