Title: CLIP [Paint Lab]
Post by: rafflone on May 19, 2011, 07:20:02 PM
Paint Lab seems to be one of those "SAI" programs, but integrated with illistudio and manga studio features, however, I'm not sure if it's a beta program, or a free trail. Because knowing CLIP, it won't be free.

It's a beta through october. Its good/great. not all hotkeys seem to be working, otherwise very nice experience for 20min of using it.

I found this forum while searching for translations for it.

zippier than illuststudio, played around with a canvas size of 5150x3550 and much less lag compared to illuststudio 1.2.1 water color brush size of 350 is still responsive/useful, pen tool has no lag at size of 600, compared to illuststudio at this res the pen tool is not useful. tested on win7 64bit core2 3ghz 2gig ram.

I just tried the program out after signing up for a clip account. It doesn't seem to be trial at all. I haven't gotten a message pop up or anything and it installed nicely on my OS. ;D for some reason I tried using  Majikkuwando but it wont start up on my comp. I'll just leave this here then for people who cant make a clip account.

clip paint lab download- http://www.mediafire.com/?x0ubj81yv0orvmf (http://www.mediafire.com/?x0ubj81yv0orvmf)

and here is a screenshot for the curious n.n

anyone think they can translate this bad boy?

Seems to be targeting towards SAI but without an English version I found it really hard to use. I use NekoPaint in Japanese and even that one is much smoother and easier to use.

I actually use CLIP Paint Lab for my arts regularly. (Since my OS is Mac OSX, it's the closest thing I can get to Paint Tool SAI without using a Virtual Machine or Bootcamp.)
Currently, Version 0.7 is out and available to download. For those who had the previous version, they added a vector line tool, fixed the water tool up to look less underdeveloped, added some brushes from Illuststudio and a few minor changes. I'd imagine in the future that CLIP Paint Labs 0.8 and 0.9 will be having big changes until the release version comes out. (It probably won't be free, but I can't imagine it being very expensive.)
CPL is like SAI in so many ways. For one, it starts up really quick, which I think anyone would like. It does start off with a default canvas, but you can either close it and make a new one, or change the size of the canvas. It has the very similar brush tools, water tool, pen tools, rotate, zoom and undo/redo buttons, so the transition from SAI to CPL was an easy one for me. I even found that you could change the smoothing with the tool options, which was very much like SAI as well.
I do agree that CPL is harder to use since it is in a language that I don't fully understand, but I have found that it does have menus very similar to Photoshop, which helped me a lot. Because of that, I've been able to figure out how to do many things. If we could get this program translated, there'd be so many more things we'd be able to do, since this can be an advanced program. I do hope to make a tutorial just for CPL, but there is still more to learn about it.
But yes, CLIP Paint Lab is a very good program so far in it's development. I can only imagine how much better 1.0 will be when it comes out. It makes a very good rival to SAI, considering that it supports both Windows and Mac and CLIP is offering updates, similar to Illuststudio.
If anyone has any questions about the program, I can help!

do you know if there will be and English translation coming out or will it stay in Japanese?

other than that I can fully agree that this program is in fact fun to use.

Hi!  Since you have been using Clip Paint Lab, I was wondering if you might know how to make a new layer.  I can understand most of the rest of the program since it is quite similar to other programs that I've used, but this is just confusing.  I can't figure out for the life of me how to make a new layer.  It's probably very simple and I just can't figure it out.  Just wondering if you might know how  :)

As far as an official English version goes, that's up to the company, really. I don't expect one for a long time, though. A fanmade version could happen, but who knows? It won't be until after the finished program gets released that someone might take on the project.

Ah yes! To make a new layer, there is this icon at the bottom of the layers window that looks like a page with a fold on the lower righthand corner. Click it to make a new layer.
I have a picture of the program window here:

More will be explained later. I hope this helps!

Wow, just been having a play with this application. Gotta say, I'm very impressed (http://www.picamatic.com/show/2011/06/12/07/33/7622862_15x15.gif)

The canvas is VERY fast (rotation/zooming/screen redraws). Much faster than IllustStudio (in openGL) however still not quite as fast as SAI.
It has a nicer/cleaner UI than IllustStudio, however all the palettes seem forced into docking mode.
I've noticed that most of the operations are muti-threaded, which my quadcore CPU loves!
Also since it's 64-bit it allows access to my 8GB ram which is a massive bonus.
The max canvas goes upto 50000px which beats SAI's 10000px.
Oh and you can have a 2000px brush size, which is nice!

Sure, most of the advanced features of IllustStudio are missing.. but if they added them into Paint Lab it would be an absolutely awesome application. Keeping my eye on this one.. hopefully it'll come in an English version too.

I was wondering if you might know how to make a new layer.

You can click the new layer icon as NanoZero mentioned, or use the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT N

About the translation:
Well I have nothing to say, just "my english suck" XD... there still some text I cannot translate for some reason
and the tooltips almost make me cry but anyway...it's just an early translation to use this software a little more comfortable

The file>>>> http://www.mediafire.com/?5g6zol4o4o7x8ob (http://www.mediafire.com/?5g6zol4o4o7x8ob)

just copy and paste the files in "...\resource\other" in Clip Paint folder.

please do a copy of the original files before replace them by the translated files!!!!

Is there anyway to get 64-bit support for this? When I did as you said, whenever I tried to start it up, it didn't open at all, so I'm going to guess this is a x86 vs x64 issue. Also it never installed a x86 version so I couldn't try that either.

I don't know about that because I'm can't test the  X64 version in  my computer... but I has compared the files with an hex editor and they look to be the same, so the translation should work...
I just replace the files my self so just try the version you need

Hi Monstrue,

I had to make an account on the boards just to feedback your incredible effort. At least in my rig (Win7, 64-bit) the translation files are working great. The first pack you´ve uploaded didn´t work for me (nothing happens after start the app), but the second upload worked.

I need more time to test this new toy properly, at moment I liked the Brush engine complexity. Looks like Clip have all the good features of the know apps (Neko, OC, AzDrawing and SAI).

Alright, the new x64 version works for me. Thanks~.

Also, do you have ANY idea where to begin if I were to say try translate this for the Mac version? I don't have a Mac, but my friend does, and he apparently wants to have a Sai-like tool without going into Boot Camp.

I'm on Win7 x64 and the /resource/other files cause Paint Lab to hang on start. I'm running v 0.7.0.
When I download and install your complete package (x64.7z), the English translation works fine. However it seems you've translated v 0.6.0.

I guess your 0.6.0 translation files aren't compatible with 0.7.0? :<

Alright, here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T58JRKM8) are the Mac files. Hopefully you can do something with them~

Ok...I has compared the files "742DEA58-ED6B-4402-BC11-20DFC6D08040" for MAC and WIN to the version 0.7.0 and they are the same for the two versions, so...
the good new is: in theory my translation work ...
the bad new is: my translation only work with the version 0.6.0

so if you have that version in theory if you find and replace the files  "742DEA58-ED6B-4402-BC11-20DFC6D08040" and "E79C2AC5-BC3F-4838-9E87-F49B629F84B5" for the translated version it should work... but it's just a theory because I don't understand too much how work Mac
About the version 0.7.0...I don't think I can do it very soon, I have a life...I swear XD

Ah, so the translation from before for x64 that worked for me only worked because it was replacing all my 0.7.0 files with 0.6.0 files? That's fine with me, but I guess I have to find a 0.6.0 Clip Paint Lab installer for Mac if I can :\

EDIT: Found the link (http://www.clip-studio.com/clip_site/download/paintlab/pltrial/stampdl?n=CLIP%20PAINT%20Lab&v=0.6&m=m&f=lib/paintlab/pltest/060/data/CPL_060m_app.dmg) for the Mac 0.6.0 version. However I do hope that you eventually get 0.7.0 done. That or you could wait for 0.8.0 to be released, since it seems that each version upgrade seems to be adding on features from other programs bit by bit. Hell, 0.7.0 added a Rotation/Free Transform tool, a pretty basic tool. Might as well wait a bit until they have more that they do now.

I just tred this. It seems really cool but one major issue here. I have a Wacom Cintiq. The pen works normally but when I move the pen onto the canvas area it moves way out of sync. It is at correct position on the right but as I move left it appears to move double the distance. This is on Windows. All other apps are working fine with the Cintiq. I have a Macbook and I haven't tried that yet but I'd want to use my PC for this app.

EDIT Ok, it works now by accident almost. I went into what is obviously some kind of preferences - eighth entry on the first menu. I ticked the box inside the third area down. Maybe somebody can translate what that is. I haven't tried any translation files here yet. I'm testing this on a quad core i7 2600, 64 bit, 8 gigs of RAM. This app flies.

Monstrue please sort out the translation. This app responds to Wacom pen rotation! Only Painter and Photoshop does that.

This is an awesome app. They must market this outside Japan. People are crying out for something like this. Corel Painter 12 is buggy with memory leaks and stuff. Photoshop is extortion cost. The best things are actually Gimp and Mypaint on Linux which is the OS I usally use.

AWESOME.

Now I can see where I had accidently set for pen rotation. The button under Dirctn in advanced subtools allows you to select pen rotation. This is serious because only Photoshop and Painter can do this. I have an art pen here with rotation.

It looks like this is the app we have been waiting for. All the festures we need for painting than can utilize our hardware properly without bloat and serious bugs. Painter 12 actually has some kind of serious memory issue that fills up your RAM - useless.

We need to get people trying this. Hopefully it will be properly marketed outside of Japan.

Post by: Ryan on August 12, 2011, 07:38:30 AM
There is a size setting for brush called Magnification effect. This makes the brush thickness vary according to the zoom of the canvas. This means you can use massive brushes while zoomed out for larger effects such as atmosphere etc. I find myself struggling at high res in other apps to do simple things like this. This is a really important setting because there is no point in a large brush painting tiny details when you're zoomed out. It also means you can map out large detail quickly to begin with before getting into detail - for example if you are doing a landscape.

I'm loving this app already.

Pen rotation is a little buggy though. Not as good as in Painter.

I've been through most of this app now. It's really easy to use and the UI is easy to configure. You can customize what appears in the tool properties of the brushes. This is cool because different brushes have different purposes.

One query though. The brush patterns are obviously bitmaps of some kind but is there any way to create your own? They reside in a folder called Material and have an extension of .layer.

yep...this tool is just for create a background repeating an image as mozaic...but I think I did translated some kind of button called "import brush pattern" but looks to be hide because they not finish that option to this version... I hope that option work for the next release ^^
Anyway, this App is really interesting but I think the software we can use right now is just the tip of the iceberg... I mean , there are a lot of tools and option just locked in the previous version and a lot more in this one, just for example I found and I did translated this:

-Lineart Layer (I think is some of vector layer, just like in SAI)
-Pages
-Frames
-Shortcuts (setup for every single brush)
-...and the most important dialog menu: "Register Version"...I saw too: "...trial period has expired..." (I hate this one  >XP )

well, I open the file with an HEX editor and it have a lot of code of the brush preferences and some symbols that looks to be the bitmap code but I cannot replace them or create new ones because they are not .png, .bmp or .jpg code  |=/
Title: Re: CLIP [Paint Lab]
Post by: Ryan on August 12, 2011, 10:46:59 PM
Using your own brush bitmaps would of course massively open up possibilities. Obviously this is a feature they will want to add.

The importing image patterns is quite cool to create layers purely to provide texture by blending as say overlay i.e a canvas texture.

The thing that is best is the basic brush engine. It's fast and has enough functions to totally control the way the brush mixes etc. It appears to work differently from other apps. You have density and opacity in the Ink settings. It seems it all mixes up to provide huge control. I wish all apps allowed you bring in paper textures etc and still be able to move them around easily like this.

I'm actually exploring lots of apps at the moment. Although I'm from a drawing background I've never been that happy with computer apps. I've been doing 3D so I'm no expert on using these apps. I've generally only used Gimp and Lighzone for post editing. Clip Paint Lab seems like it has massive potential. it's already more usable than competitors.

An app that properly uses my 64 bit multi core system, that has a really good basic brush engine giving me power to adjust the paint blending on canvas for variety of reults, it needs to have brush bitmap capability so I can have control of shapes and be able to alter the spacing of this so the brush becomes more like a stamp for textural stuff, the UI needs to be simple and easy to use and it needs to have no bloat and be reliable. There are other things but these are the major points that no app actually properly addresses.

I'd use Corel Painter but it's actually got some kind of memory leak and it's sluggish and awkward in UI. The price is too high with these problems.

SAI is good but has some limits. I'm currently using Mypaint and Gimp on Linux until somebody sorts this out. Of course I'd love a fully featured Linux painting app but this isn't coming any time soon.

IT'S DONE!!!! HOLLY MOTHER OF ALL THE GOODNESS!!!
This translation was a pain...! but anyway it was kinda fun  8)

Translated files to the version 0.7.0>> http://www.mediafire.com/?ufejr9m6cp1r8r4 (http://www.mediafire.com/?ufejr9m6cp1r8r4)
just replace your files "742DEA58-ED6B-4402-BC11-20DFC6D08040" and "E79C2AC5-BC3F-4838-9E87-F49B629F84B5" for the translated files...It should work for all the versions 0.7.0:  x86, x64 and MAC ;)

Have fun!!

Note: for the Win version, only replace the files in the folder: "resource/other"...I don't know to MAC  ;D

Whooohooo! :D

Found the files.  Oh Apple and your tricky, tricky file hiding~

First, right-click the 'CLIP PAINT Lab' application (not the alias, the actual application) and click 'Show Package Contents'.  The application is actually a disguised folder.  Once you're in there, you can navigate to Contents/Resources/other/  and replace the interface files with Monstrue's translations.

Anyone check out the latest update to Clip Paint Lab? New features, texture brushes, lots of new comic options and 3D options. It's coming out very nicely. :D

Also turns out Clip Paint Lab is a trial. #_# I set my calender to the day after the final date (December 9th) and it locks itself.

Hey everyone i made an account because i'm really stumped on what to do, so i've DL clip paint lab as well as the english patch file that i found here.

1) First up the patch file that get DL appears as a white page which i cannot open as my computer says it has no applications that can open it (i have a mac but i heard of other mac users using this patch)
2) So i found where i'm supposed to replace the files with the translations but i can't find the translations because all i have it the white page symbol that a mentioned above, so i did try replacing the black screen things in the folder with the white page but all this did was make the clip paint lab quit immediately before it can even open.

So i'm guessing that this is not how you replace the translation, does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

the white page symbol i see is called - Resource_other-04.7.0 ENG.7z
and the black boxes were - 0A24C606-7FC7-4694-930C-9ED7407B9A18, 742DEA58-ED6B-4402-BC11-20DFC6D08040 and E79C2AC5-BC3F-4838-9E87-F49B629F84B5

i really have no idea what im doing, i'm a total noob to using patches

The 0.7.1 ver. isn't compatible with the English patch.

Either Mac users like you and I will have to wait until someone's kind enough *to* make it work, or we're just stuck with Japanese.

Why is it doing that? I get a similar error if I try to install PoseStudio. >:/ And yes my computer can read Japanese. I also tried to install within the zip itself but I get the same set of errors.

On another note, does anyone know if it's possible to remove the "paper" or "background" layer from images when saving as PNG? By that I mean the annoying white background that is shown on the canvas but not the layer previews.

I nearly had a mini heart attack when I read that 0.7 expired. I had stacked up a fair amount of WIPs and since I only had them in .lip format, I thought I was screwed. Good thing the files open fine in 0.7c. Will wait for a kind soul to edit the translation patch to work on 0.7c, but for now I'll just try to use my limited japanese and try to use it, or go back to photoshop after completing all those WIPs.

There's just one thing bugging me though. Does anyone know how to set opacity to pen pressure? I can't seem to be able to find that option. Only density and thickness, etc.

I tried searching for it when I was still using version 7.0, but it only enabled me to adjust the opacity level manually, not allowing me to toggle it to pen pressure. (the arrow icon wasn't available for opacity) I don't see it in 7.0c either, but my japanese is close to useless so I'm still hoping that it's actually there, just that I can't find it since I can hardly understand the words.

Also, I'll be looking forward to illust studio for mac. There's another thread about this in the illust studio section, if I'm not wrong. I just hope someone will be kind enough to do a translation patch for it as well.

Okay, so I'm using a Macbook Pro, and I've downloaded the latest patch for Clip Paint Lab and extracted the files using Unarchiver. However, the files I got out of the 7z folder aren't the right file type, apparently.

My Mac reads them as 'documents', whereas the files they're meant to replace in the resources/other folder read as 'Unix Executable' files. I know that there's something about how since the program has released a new version, the translation doesn't work anymore, but that shouldn't affect the files in the download, right?

Is there any way at all for me to use this very nice-looking program and have full access to all the tools?

Seconding everything dundee998 said: I'm also on a Macbook Pro, running OSX 10.6.8, and I had the same thing happen with the translation files. I replaced the same-named files in the Resources/japanese folder, and now CPL is crashing without even really opening. :( I really want to be able to use this program, as the only way I can use SAI is via VMWare, which is slow and hogs memory, and also I dislike Windows.

The patches are for CPL 0.7 and not for the latest one 0.7.1c
No one has made patches for it, and the older version has expired. If you use the older ones for the new version it'll crash.

And also from the message I got CPL (official name Clip Studio) will be on sale around spring 2012 and should cost roughly $150
From the letter I got looks like they're going to be combining comicstudio (manga studio) and illluststudio for this project. And they're discontinuing those two softwares after 2013.

SWEEEET! And $150 is definitely not a bad price for what they're offering. It's just a tad more expensive than SAI, but this program in many ways exceeds it. That only makes me wonder what will happen to Manga Studio here in the States. I guess if Smith Micro wants to continue selling Celsys products, they may have to license CPL.

Hi!

I just downloaded v0.8 and I must say I am impressed with the progress.
Holy cow this thing is a beauty!Very intuitive and elegant UI.
I don't understand Japanese, but as far as brush engine goes I think this is the best feature set I have ever seen (and I haven't seen half of it).I don't need half baked, dead slow, natural media brushes like those in Painter for example.
Most of the features from IllustStudio/Comic studio are already in there, I love the brush modes (normal,multiply,darken...), rulers, and content tab on the right.Vector stuff is a breeze.
I didn't go into customization but I think it will be present to some degree, I loved that in IllustStudio. Expandability.

Only thing it lacks is english translation.I really hope they will include it in final release. I am almost certain I would buy it as I got tired with Painter,
and Photoshop lacks some of the greatness IllustStudio provides (rulers, vector goodies,brushes,filling...). Speed is there, UI is very nice, brushes are amazing...

So,if anyone from celsys is reading this, please consider english translation.
I already bothered developers on the beta forums.

Thanks!

I'm thinking much like mangastudio it'll have two version of the program like a pro or and ex version of the program too that has tons more features like the perspective tools and etc. Either way, I'm throwing money at it. I've already using the rulers in the program a ton. I love them so muuuch.

And amazon already usually sells manga program less than half the retail price. But I still think Smith Micro will sell it for years.

Not sure how he did it but it'll take a while for another translation to be done considering how much more has been added since version 0.7

It's not particularly hard to learn you just have to take a day or two to just sit down and play with EVERYTHING and try to remember. XD; Good Japanese lesson.
If I get time I'll screen shot how to do certain things and etc...

I'm going to guess that the first box is the email address you used to register at CLIP, and the second box is the password they sent you.  I'm not sure if that's exactly it since my dialogue boxes all showed "? ? ?"s, but I did CTRL+S and inserted the address and password and was allowed to save.

So see if that works. C:

I'm going to guess that the first box is the email address you used to register at CLIP, and the second box is the password they sent you.  I'm not sure if that's exactly it since my dialogue boxes all showed "? ? ?"s, but I did CTRL+S and inserted the address and password and was allowed to save.

So see if that works. C:
Thank you so much! It worked!

I'm using 0.8.1 and I can't save anything; when I try to it asks for a serial code, like so: http://i.imgur.com/84nXB.png

Obviously I've got no serial code (are serial codes for Paint Lab even available?!) so I'm really not sure what to do, as it doesn't give me any other options. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've tried the latest version but I don't understand the tools because all of it is in japanese.

The only thing I notice is the size of the brushes is the same as the photoshop .I hope someone could translate the tools and the brush settings too

Well, either try and click/drag everything and see what it does,
wait for the translation (if it ever comes)
or learn Japanese.

Tried the .6 english translated version.  There's no way to change hotkeys, or am I missing something?  Looks about the same as illustudio2 which I've been using for the last year or so...dont seen anything new or interesting in it.

Performance is boosted and considerably so, even in v 06. It's 64 bit application!
Also there is toolbar on the right side where all assets can be found (word balloons, 3d objects, patterns, backgrounds ...).
Also brush engine is updated and I can see quite a few options added, for once I love brush modes (multiply, color dodge etc.) for many brushes not just airbrush.
UI is changed.Added things from Comic studio ( like word ballons, FX...).

Sure it looks like IllustStudio, but it is new gen hybrid of IS and CS.
I miss custom and perspective rulers.
Also, English version.

Aw, that's all fantastic! CLIP is becoming a lot more promising as the betas get closer and closer to the final product. It's becoming more like Photoshop but with the paint mechanics of SAI and Painter. The program's sure to sell like hotcakes when it comes out.

Well Smith Micro did mention a new version of Manga Studio will be release this year. This makes me wonder if they're taking Clip Studio and just translating it, keeping the name Manga Studio.
Would be a good deal if they did.

I really really love the reference window they added.

MangaStudio and Illuststudio will be developed until 2013,
so it's possible there will be two more releases before they transfer all the tech in Clip Studio and end development/support for MS(CS) and IS.

Manga Studio maybe, but not so sure about illuststudio since that and clip paint are so similar. Maybe update releases with the current software I can see. Also by now we would hear something about a new version of CS or IS if there was going to be a new version.

Perhaps.I got impression that they will fix some bugs until 2013 and in meantime Clip Studio (paint lab),which will have two flavors (http://www.clip-studio.com/clip_site/mypage/newsdetail?publish=201112&f=2011122001), will replace both programs. It already contains much improved engine and most features of the good stuff from both programs.
I see it as wise ,since they will develop one product (win,mac,32,64bit), which can do everything both of the former mentioned programs could, instead of two.

Quote from the webpage.

I already have cash set aside. XD

Totally. I always wonder what would happen if Adobe focus just on a drawing/art program. This looks the closest I've imagine.

Yeah yeah, same here. I feel like they could do well if they made one, but there is too much competition for drawing/painting programs in general. Adobe's already doing really well anyways, and they probably will continue to be successful.
I'm liking what I'm seeing in CLIP Studio, so I may never have to use PS again if it's that fantastic.

PHOTOSHOP EXPORT!!!! <3

And also from the message I got CPL (official name Clip Studio) will be on sale around spring 2012 and should cost roughly $150
From the letter I got looks like they're going to be combining comicstudio (manga studio) and illluststudio for this project. And they're discontinuing those two softwares after 2013.

Is that why they removed all their programs from selling vendors?? You have to rent the programs now?

You need to install Japanese language and you need an Hexaeditor that show you the code in UTF-8 or you only will see symbols, but be careful when you replace text in hex because the text you replace must have less or same number of characters spaces...
yes it take me time because I translate by part and test, translate other few text and test again to don´t overwork fixing all the mess..

I'm willing to give this a shot, but, when I open the files on my Mac with Hexfiend, they show a lot of garbled characters. I'm not sure what encoding or byte size options I should be picking or if I'm doing something else wrong.

I have a friend who speaks Japanese and is (graciously) willing to do the work, I just need to know how to edit the files. Any updates on the previous effort, or advice about editing the files for my own, would be appreciated. I'd be sure to release the patch to the public.

Thanks!

I also got garbled characters, but once I installed japanese language I could see the symbols.Although you need to scroll through the code and look for them.
Then you'd need to copy the part and translate it and paste it in again. That's as far as I got. There is many, many words to be translated.
I wish Clip made it easier on future users.

I already have Japanese language support built-in to OS X Lion to my knowledge (Japanese sites show fine, etc.). The files in the Resources/Other folder still show garbled when I open them.

I'm thinking I'm not opening the files with the right encoding or something in Hexfiend.

"you need an Hexaeditor that show you the code in UTF-8". Did you set that? I used that HexEditor Neo, like Monstruo.
Anyways, most of the characters will be garbled AFAIK . The ones you need to translate are way past the middle of the file, try scrolling down until you see something recognizable, in Japanese.
Like these ones....

UTF-8, got it. I'll install Parallels to run Hex Editor Neo, worst case, because I'm not getting any Japanese characters out of Hexfiend. It may be a limit of that app since I know my OS isn't the problem.

Can anyone post the unedited 0.8.2 files from a Windows build? I'm wondering if the way that OS X sees and classifies these files is part of the problem. They are Unix Executable Files as bundled with Clip Paint in OS X, and I'm keen to try the Windows versions of the files that just show as blank Document files.

Clip Studio has a release date of May this year. The price will be roughly 120-150 for it.

The EX edition will come out in fall. Very much excite.

Not unless someone license it in English. But I hear smith micro who already does translate their programs may pick it up and continues to keep it under the name "Manga Studio" if they do, good call on them. I still want to pick up the Japanese version because Micro takes forever with software updates.

Honestly, i dont think they will ever let English speakers translate this.. We messed up manga studio. Now its available to everyone for free. Its not hard to find it for free download online.. And ENGLISH.  Celsys is keeping this on ONLY rent to JAPANESE residents. They want to DEFINITELY make sure it is not ours.. They don't like us very much.

I just don't think so, since they are only renting it, and making sure your in japan to get it.

Hmmm... I shall wait. Hopefully they might branch out with other ways later down the road. ;A;

Fortunately the english manga studio the serial numbers does work on the Japanese site. So as long as it's not a pirated copy we should be fine.

I don't know what issues come up if they want to release an English version. It's just a convenience ,really.
They could make a lot of money by selling and launching their programs to non Japanese population.
If Clip Studio turns out to be as good as it looks it will definitively turn some heads.
Considering the price, many will ditch Photoshop /Painter /whatever for it or just run it along side those softwares.

No one can stop piracy, people will have it (even in English) either way.
Isn't it better to make money and keep working on the product?
Wouldn't it be better to give people alternative to expensive software.
Why keep it small if it has potential to compete with the big guys?

Besides they could spread out in different ways such as the mac app store. Hopefully they'll consider that in the future.

Really like how the update handles screentones now. ;A;

Now I'm hoping that Clip will accept my MS serial and not ask me to put in the disk. Just thought it might not read since it's reformated for US.

Course I could probably import a copy of comicstudio.

Cool. I haven't tried .83 yet.

I'm interested to see how clip handles the upgrades. I'm hoping they'll just email a code to people with CS registered on clip :|

I haven't dealt with celsys though, and they seem hell-bent on making their products impossible to obtain :P

Pain Lab is not for sale as of yet.
It will be in May, and it will be called Clip Studio or something like that.
There are no translations, haven't checked the old ones, to see if they work.
Brush engine looks fantastic, very robust.
Performance is top notch.

Pretty much it takes quite a while to translate the files. And by the time it gets translated a new version of CPL gets updated thus the english files need to redone. It's a tedious job if it's constantly done.

It's best to take a few days and well just learn the program.

Or wait till the official product comes out and have someone translate from the long run. Although you'll run into the same update/out of date file problem as now.

Should be excellent software.

Has anyone else noticed this strange artifacting at the end of lines?  It seems to get worse as I ink lines faster, and only happens with the pen tool(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cZHCj4KaMjY/T7OWmu8fxnI/AAAAAAAAAb4/5Q4q2P6zvJc/s1600/artifacting.jpg).  It started about three beta revisions ago.  I can keep it under control if I ink slowly, but where is the fun in that?

I recall something similar happening in IllustStudio, there was an option to have "pointed end" above pressure settings for the pen, that could be it.
Could be that line correction and/or pressure sensitivity for the pen is wrong/too high as well.
Try lowering the parameters of the brush and see what makes it go weird.
I don't have it installed, sorry, only guessing.

Is there a way to add new brushes ala Sai? Or convert Sai brushes? I know you can change the settings on the brushes and everything, but I have a rather large brush pack for Sai that I bought and love and I would really like to use it on CPL :c

Not at the moment while it being on beta but when the program does one of its major updates. (Check the official. website.) We should be able to make brushes as well as use illuststudio's.

edit: so I gave the 1.0 installer a test run. My overall initial impression was that clip studio is noticeably slower than both the demo and illustudio. Almost immediately I felt strokes didn't have that Sai-like responsiveness that I was getting in the demo. After making a vector layer and using the 'grab' tool to modify lines I found the program extremely choppy. I'm running a quad core intel @ 4.0 ghz, 12gb ram, and a workstation vga card optimized for openGL. I restarted a few times... but nothing. I'm not sure if its a limitation on the demo, or some setting I'm unaware of (I can't read Japanese).. I remember Illustudio had  a preference to change between openGL and some other Mode, which I ran both fine in, but I couldn't find anything similar in the options. Overall I'm pretty disappointed in the performance. I'm curious to see how its working for other people?
Title: Re: CLIP [Paint Lab]

Working just fine with me. I'm working on my iMac with 4 gigs of ram (Planning to max it to 16 next week) I did test sketch and inks on 300, 600, and 1200 dpi. The 1200 did lag some, but it mainly effected resizing canvas size and layer merging. Sketching and etc it ran pretty okay. Painting wise some brushes did give me trouble at 1200 but weren't a problem at 600. Inking wise and basic coloring wise all settings were fine. I'm sure some kinks will be iron out with updates.

It seems that if you bought IllustStudio within the last 12 months, you're eligible for a free upgrade/download of CSP-PRO http://www.clipstudio.net/paint/warm_treatment

So I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to buy IllustStudio (¥5190 from Amazon.jp) and get the free CSP-PRO upgrade?
That way you have 2 programs for the price of 1!

BUT,
- A 3rd party shipping service will be needed to get anything overseas from Amazon.jp which will cost extra.
- You'll only really be using one painting program
- We've managed to translate IllustStudio .dlls while CSP seems to require hex editing of the .exe?
- Will support for IllustStudio completely stop now that CSP has been released?
- If you have the free upgrade CSP-PRO, would that still count towards the CSP-EX version upgrade for ¥17000?

Should I forget about IllustStudio and just go the CSP-PRO (¥5000) -> CSP-EX Upgrade (¥17000) route?

Why do CELSYS make it so difficult to acquire their applications QQ

Edit: I've decided to forget about purchasing IllustStudio for now.

I'm on a mac and it works fine. Any program that's under $100 bucks that does what CSP does is a steal in my opinion. That's why Celsys is an awesome company. I'd did ask smith micro via twitter if they have plans of licensing this.
Title: Extracting / Installing CLIP STUDIO PAINT (CSP_100w_app.zip)
Post by: trev on June 01, 2012, 02:03:10 AM
The zip/installer from CELSYS has some double-byte characters in the files names, so they don't extract correctly on non-Japanese systems.
This mainly affects Windows.
Here's some instructions on how to correctly extract from the CSP_100w_app.zip:

[1]
Install Microsoft AppLocale (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13209)

[2] Download the AppLocale patch [site link] (http://opcode0x90.wordpress.com/2008/01/09/patch-for-applocale/) or [direct link] (http://opcode0x90.googlecode.com/files/AppLoc.rar) and copy/overwrite the AppLoc.exe into C:\Windows\AppPatch\

[3] Install 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) (Note: it has to be the x86 version (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z920.exe) otherwise applocale won't function correctly.)

[4] Open AppLocale (should be in your Start Menu).
Click Next.
With 'Launch an application' selected, click Browse.. and find 7zFM.exe (usually in C:\Program Files (x86)\7-Zip).
Click Next.
Language of the application: 日本語 (Japanese - it's usually at the bottom of the menu).
Click Next.
Tick 'Create a shortcut ...'
Click Finish.

[5]
Open your Start Menu and you should see a new shortcut in Microsoft AppLocale - 7zFM (7zip File Manager)
Click 7zFM - you now have a Japanese 7-zip capable of reading double-byte characters!

[6] Find your original CSP_100w_app.zip and extract it to a folder.
All the file names are now correct and can be seen by the installer.
You can now run Startup.exe to install CLIP STUDIO PAINT!

Enjoy

- If you have the free upgrade CSP-PRO, would that still count towards the CSP-EX version upgrade for ¥17000?

Should I forget about IllustStudio and just go the CSP-PRO (¥5000) -> CSP-EX Upgrade (¥17000) route?

Why do CELSYS make it so difficult to acquire their applications QQ

Edit: I've decided to forget about purchasing IllustStudio for now.

if you have a visa card you can just buy it from their website and get to download plus 995mb of extra goodies to use on your new software. Just bought mine about .... 7- 10 minutes ago. you'll have to

after buying.   My Page > Product Serial Number Available (copy your serial then click download) Enter your serial then authenticate, should take you to the right thing to download if not you can find it at

Clip Lab > Download Clip >  VERSION/VALUE DOWNLOAD VERSION

:D i hope to get a lot of mileage as only using  Clip Studio Paint Pro and Photoshop.

I just also got my free version of this program.  It says trial/rental. Is this limited? Also does anyone know how limited this is compaired to EX??

Someone please translate soon! . Or if anyone can tell me how? I have alot of free time. It seems to be abit more complicated then Illuststudio modification of one file.

ladyyoshiaru, from the looks of it (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clipstudio.net%2Fpaint%2Ffunctional_list&tl=en), the EX version has the support for multipage/manga (the way Comic Studio (http://www.comicstudio.net/) and ComiLabo (http://www.portalgraphics.net/cl/) do) and a few other extras.
How did you get the free update by the way? Did you own IllustStudio before?

If you want to have a go at translating, just read back through this thread and look for Monstrue's post.
I'm using MadEdit (http://sourceforge.net/projects/madedit/) as my hex editor because it supports UTF-8 and doesn't wipe the undo history every time on save!
Most of the language is stored in the \resource\other\742DEA58-ED6B-4402-BC11-20DFC6D08040 file.

I've started having a go at translating CSP, but it's haarrd :\ And slow.
Gotta constantly test to make sure its not been corrupted.
I don't know when I'll be finished, I'm upto 0017F2D0.
I'm hoping they don't update/patch it anytime soon.. it's depressing just thinking about re-translating it from scratch again :D

trev - a page back :
http://translate.kaetemi.be/

I ran it on the demo, to no avail - I haven't found a set of instructions on how to use it .. this would be idea, opposed to hex editting every single release

It's a good idea! However, the language file has to retain the exact same structure.
If any of the bytes that aren't text get overwritten, moved or deleted, then CSP will fail to open and hang on launch.
That's why you've literally got to go through it manually and try to find English words that will fit into the byte order of the Japanese ones :(

Why not just make a few side by side images with the translations instead of editing the hex? This would be a bit more future proof and you start to remember what each command is after a few uses.

Hehe! I can't read or write Japanese so there's no way for me to translate the text unless I can copy/paste into translation/google apps :)
There's Japanese OCR software that lets you translate from screenshots/images, but they're really unreliable and you need each word as an image file for uploading.
I don't actually use menus at all, I'm 100% shortcuts - but I need to translate the menus so that I can see what I'm assigning shortcuts too! Or we could all just learn Japanese .'D

Hello!

I'm hoping someone could clarify some things for me. I've never bought a program via a downloading method before, so I'm clueless here. What happens when you buy it? Do they send you a serial? If they do, does it only work on one computer? What if I have to switch computers at some point? I've also never understood whether updates were included or not.

Haha, I really want to straighten some things out before I take the plunge. I've grown attached to the program over the past year.

Thanks for the hard work on translation guys!
If you would share your effort with the rest of us, I will thank you even more.

Definitely mmg! :D

Cool whitetree! Looking forward to those manuals - CSP can get quite complicated!

Actually, because of the complexity of CSP, it might be good to give it its own sub-forum?
Plus this thread is getting quite confusing now :D
If we do get a new forum, I'll post the translation there too.
I'll message restorer about it.. :3

EDIT:

CSP English Translation can now be found in the CSP sub-forum!
Any updates will be posted there:

Thanks restorer! :D

dorkboy, great news! Glad to hear its functional on OSX.

mmg, i've got a .txt document of notes (it contains the hex line numbers of what's been translated) which might help you.
i'll try post it in the new thread (http://sai.detstwo.com/smf/index.php?topic=2001.0), but the forum doesn't seem to accept the .txt file for some reason D:

CSP's UI renders type formatting in a really elegant manner, it's almost as if it was designed to accommodate for different languages.
The way in which all the language information is stored externally from the executables also suggests that multiple languages are a very real possibility.

I'm being hopeful of course, as IllustStudio didn't get any additional language releases QQ

Okay,thanks trev.
I did start translating the damn thing but I didn't pay attention to byte size and character spacing, so at one point it got corrupted and I just gave up.
I know it's tedious work and very time consuming.

Whenever I open CSP, it just stays open for about 2-5 seconds, then it quits.
What do I do? :/

First there is a forum for this program now..

Also how far does it get? Does it even show the GUI before stopping.  When you open  task manager is it still running in processes.  Did you modify this program and did you get your serial number to work?  Its probably just a bad installation. If its over vista OS.
